IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria

IBPS PO Recruitment :

Probationary Officers (PO) and Management Trainees (MT) are recruited every year through a Common Written Examination (CWE), commonly known as the IBPS PO exam. The CWE was started in 2011 and is being conducted for the 10th time this year and hence is officially called IBPS PO /MT CWE X 2020.The IBPS PO selection process consists of 3 phases (preliminary, mains and interview) and the candidate must qualify each of them to proceed to the next phase. Mentioned below are the important steps of the IBPS PO Recruitment Process:

Any candidate who is applying for the IBPS PO examination should not be less than 20 years old and not more than 30 years old at the time of registration. In addition to this, there is an age relaxation application to category wise candidates as per the government rules:

IBPS PO Exam Pattern

IBPS introduced separate sectional timing for each sections in preliminary exam. The IBPS PO exam (CWE 10) for hiring candidates will be based on an online written exam in two parts: Tier 1 or IBPS Preliminary Exam and Tier 2 or IBPS Mains Exam. This examination is followed by a face-to-face interview process.

IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern

The IBPS PO preliminary examination has a total duration of 1 hour and 20 mintues for each sections, which will be conducted in online mode. It consists of 3 sections with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks. There is negative marking in IBPS PO pre exam and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. Candidates must clear the cut-off in all 3 sections to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern

The IBPO PO Main exam is also conducted online, it has 5(4+1) sections with a total score of 200+25 marks and total duration of 180+30 minutes. IBPS will be conducting a descriptive paper in its mains exam for selection of candidates to the post of Probationary officer. The sections must be attempted in the same order and the allotted time as mandated at the time of the exam. A candidate has to clear both preliminary and mains examination to be eligible for the interview process.

Bank PO is one of the most common and sought after exams for the selection of a Probationary Officer in Public as well as Private Banks conducted by IBPS for Public sector banks other SBI .  State bank of India Conducts separate exam for their officer requirements. 

Probationary Officer is a managerial level post in a Bank which is considered quite respectful, both in a bank as well as in society.

It is very important for a candidate to understand the eligibility criteria of the Bank PO exam before he/she decides to apply and invest their resources for the exam. Candidates must check the relevant notification for every exam to know the changes made , any additional requirements .

  • Candidate must be 21-30 years of age while applying for the exam.
  • Relaxation of 5 years and 3 years in age are given to candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC category respectively.
  • There must be no criminal record in the candidate’s name.

The overall selection process for the Bank PO generally consists of three stages

The first two steps are the preliminary written exam and the mains written exam respectively. 

If a candidate qualifies both the written exam, he/she is called for the third and final step which is a Personal Interview. 

Once a candidate is through all the three steps of recruitment, a final comprehensive list based on each candidate’s performance is generated with the names of those candidates who are finally selected for the Bank PO jobs.

The syllabus of the exam is designed in such a way that it assesses both, the Aptitude as well as General Awareness of the candidate. 

The preliminary paper is divided into three sections- 

  • Quantitative Aptitude, 
  • Reasoning, and 
  • Verbal Ability. 

The mains paper consists of five sections namely 

  • General Awareness, 
  • Computer Knowledge, 
  • Quantitative Aptitude, 
  • Reasoning, and 
  • Verbal Ability.

The full form of Bank PO Exam is the ‘Bank Probationary Officer Exam’. Bank PO is a Scale 1 officer position offered in various banks of the country. Scale 1 officer is a manager level personnel who is entitled to perform managerial tasks. 

The exam is conducted by various bodies like IBPS, SBI,  etc. to select manager level employees for Banks . 

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection or IBPS organizes the PO exam to select candidates for this post in 20 Public Sector Banks in India. 

Other Public and Private banks like SBI hold this exam for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in their respective banks.

If you get recruited in any of the Banks under IBPS, the Salary including HRA, DA, etc. goes up to Rs. 38,360 – 40,700/-  per month. 

Apart from the handsome salary, a Probationary Officer is also entitled to get other benefits like Medical Cover, Travel Allowance, Newspaper Allowance etc , Leave travel allowance and concessional rate of interest for availing loans etc.

If you are recruited as an SBI PO, the PayScale is 23700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020. 

The total compensation per annum is a minimum of ₹7.55 lakhs and a maximum of ₹12.93 lakhs depending on the place of posting and other factors.  Again this salary levels will vary based on location due to change in DA.

A candidate can apply for the Bank PO exam through online mode only. Candidates must follow below given steps and keep required documents to successfully apply for the Bank PO exam.
